At their Pernis site, Shell is currently investing in the building of a Solvent Deasphalter (SDA). This SDA will be able to remove heavy particles from petroleum, enabling the refinery to turn a larger part of the crude oil into lighter, high-quality products.
Various contractors are currently working on the construction of this plant. We have meanwhile received the first pipe spools, both in Oosterhout (wet coating) and at Straco Waspik (TSA). The project is currently still in the start-up phase, as we will be doing the bulk of this work in 2017. Subject to permit approvals, construction work will start in 2017. The SDA is expected to be completed in 2018.
